Hilde-Mari Van Rooyen

Educator with Masters degree in Economics (MCom)

Hilde-Mari is the co-founder and manager of Extra Classes. She holds a masters degree in Economics at the University of Stellenbosch and has many years experience. She offers Mathematics extra classes for grade 8 to 12 learners as well as extra classes for various BComm undergraduate subjects.


“I enjoy helping school learners and students to succeed in reaching their academic goals and overcoming fear. When I work with children, I don`t only see where they are now, I listen to their dreams and I focus on their potential future, their God given purpose. Then I give my absolute best to help them achieve this purpose through prayer, motivation and academic help.”

Sandriëtte Howard

Educator with an Honours degree in Zoology and a PGCE

Sandriëtte has 8 years of experience as a Science teacher with a passion for teaching.  She has ‘n Honours degree in Zoology and a Post Graduate certificate in Education.  She has experience in teaching Natural Sciences, Life Science, Physical Science and Maths Literacy.


“I believe that is not only important to teach learners theory, but to guide them to truly understand the work and apply their knowledge.  I also strive to spark learners interest and teach them a love for Science, because that plays a big role in their end results!”


Marthie De Leeuw

Educator and busy with her BEng (Chemical) degree

Marthie is an educator for high school and University students. She is busy with her BEng (Chemical) degree at the University of Stellenbosch.

Anja du Toit

Anja du Toit

Educator with a MSc degree

Anja is an educator at Extra Classes for grade 6-12 learners. She has a MSc degree, is familiar with the IEB and CAPS curriculums and has ample teaching experience.


“The task at hand should not be limited to simply teaching mathematics, but to empower and inspire. My aim is two-fold: teaching to understand, apply and enjoy mathematics, but more importantly to overcome self-doubt, anxiety and fear. From my experience, I’ve come to realize that self-doubt often overshadows capabilities. My goal with tutoring is to encourage a positive approach with every tutorial, class test and upcoming exam to ultimately help learners reach their potential. Not only do I enjoy doing this, but seeing learners succeed is satisfying for both learners and parents.”


Rachelle Mari Du Plessis

Educator with a BSc Mathematical Sciences degree

Rachelle Mari is an educator at Extra Classes for Grade 8-12 learners. She has a BSc Mathematical Science degree and is busy with her PGCE.


“I love people and I love maths. My goal is therefore not that the learners only understand their work but that they start loving to do it. Benjamin Franklin said “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” I aim to create such an environment so that every learner feels involved.”

Educator with a B.Eng. (Civil)

Michal is an educator at Extra Classes for Grade 8-12 learners with a B.Eng. (Civil) from Stellenbosch University.


“Learners who are armed with knowledge are set to scale greater challenges. I feel that it is my responsibility to arm learners with knowledge to conquer challenges and reach their goals. I believe that learning is a perpetual undertaking that yields immeasurable value. Therefore, my aim is to show learners the utility and satisfaction of perpetual learning.”

Educator and busy his MSc degree in Engineering (Electrical and Electronic)

Ian has a B.Eng. (Electrical and Electronic) from Stellenbosch University and am currently pursuing a MSc degree in Engineering.

Kumien is an Mathematics educator for school learners. She is a final year BCom. Actuarial Sciences student at the University of Stellenbosch.


“This is a wonderful opportunity for me to branch out into something else than just working with numbers on my own. I believe that once you tutor someone you truly understand your own work but at the same time you get to help someone realise how to work through something without getting frustrated.
